Motivation And Action

Motivation And Action

Most people live our daily lives automatically, dragged by the routine with little time to be able to plan if we want to lead another way or do different things with our lives. When we propose something like slimming, eating better, looking for another job, getting more exercise or sleeping more hours, we cannot change anything. Usually we repeat over and over again “I have to”, “should …” and nothing ever happens. If they ask us why we do nothing, a “I do not have the motivation yet”, “I lack time”.

Does this ring to you? Is it possible to change without dragging this load? These kind of proposals we make become a burden because we put the weight of the “I have to”. Not a good way to get motivation. If we do not do anything but all day we are repeating that we should do it as an obligation, we do nothing but increase our stress level for free, without getting anything in return.

Motivation And ActionLet’s analyze what it takes to feel motivation enough to change.

1 – Wanting. The brain feels comfortable and happy when it pursues and gets its desires. Our brain feeds on desires and everything we get in life is born in the form of a desire. We must eliminate forever from our lives the “I have to”, “should …”, etc. For all action there is a healthier way of speaking to us. If I do not feel like going to work one day, I can growl and say “I have to go to work” or I can say “I want to earn a salary at the end of the month for such or such”. The word “I want” is much better activator of our motivation. You can read more in the post that I deal with this topic ( see post ). If we want something in our life we have to start by saying loudly “I want to lose weight”, “I want to exercise”, etc.

2 – Making ourselves responsible . If we take responsibility for everything that happens around us, we become masters of our destiny. Most people spend their lives blaming external factors for what happens to them. Society sadly invites us to do so. We are going to put an example. I walk down the street and I hit a clueless pedestrian who is looking at the cell phone and I fall into a puddle formed because there is a hole in the sidewalk. Our reaction is quite predictable, we will be angry with the lord of the mobile and we will recriminate his attitude that has caused us to fall. We will relieve ourselves by recriminating such irresponsible action of the gentleman to immediately claim to the city council the costs of repairing our suit damaged by the water due to the state of the sidewalk. Sounds pretty logical right? This way of seeing life is very poor and tells our brains that we cannot control anything, everything is the fault of others who do not know how to do things right. This attitude is not very motivating. It is much healthier to say things like “going out has a risk”; “I have decided to go out, nobody has forced me”; “Disregarding the mobile phone when you walk down the street happens to everyone, it is not an act of terrorism.” At this moment you become master of your destiny. It is impressive the power of this change of attitude to life. A world of possibilities opens up. Keep in mind that I am talking about what you do with your brain, not your right or not to compensation. If you want to read more there is a post where I talk about this ( see post ). 3 – Acting:  When we do not see things clear or feel low energy, there is a way to get the motivation needed, simply to act. If we begin to move in the direction we want even if we are not very motivated, without realizing it we are opening the door to other stimuli that will help us to see the meaning to everything.

In short, if we take responsibility for the world around us we will realize that life will be what we want it to be. You just have to want it and act. In a next post I will tell you the best way to get action and advance our goals.
